She loved to travel and loved to teach others how to make art. Proudly independent, Joan had no children of her own, but she was a second mother to her two nieces and her godson. She was a practicing artist for her entire life, working in multiple media: clay and stone sculpture, painting, and illustration. She received her BFA at Rhode Island School of Design and masters degree at University of Hartford. In her retirement, she served as a docent at the Wadsworth Atheneum. Joan was a devoted art teacher in the Hartford Public schools for four decades. She was raised in Windsor Locks and lived in Middletown most of her life. Born in Windsor Locks, daughter of the late Attilio and Rose (Castellini) Traverso. Joan Veronica Traverso, 84, of Cromwell died Saturday, December 26 at Middlesex Hospital of COVID-19. In her final years, she moved to Covenant Living Communities, where she was a beloved neighbor and dear friend to many.
